Pause Stranger When You Pass Me By

Pause, stranger, when you pass me by,
For as you are now, so once was I.
As I am now, so will you be.
Embrace ye death and follow me.
---
Thank you for that. An inscription on a tombstone I guess. Oh so true.
---
I have no problem embracing death, but I am not in a hurry to do so.
---
me either.. im not done yet!!

---
I'm one day closer to death!
---
We're all one day closer to death! I would just like to get through my list of things I most want to do before death calls for me. And since I will be 55 on Sunday, I'm beginning to feel a real urgency. I hate getting older ... but it sure beats the alternative.
Peace, everyone, and a long and happy life to you all!

Staying Friends When one of You Gets Married

Oceangram found March 27, 2012
Just a little rant.
I am a Mother, I am the first out of all my friends to get married and have a child. Since I have had a kid my friends treat me very differently, I don't believe this is on purpose but it is still very hurtful.
Just thought I would spread the word to everyone out there that has a friend with a kid(s) to remember that just because they have children now does not mean they are different people. It also does not mean that they don't want to still go out and have a good time. My friends have a terrible habit of ASSUMING that I am too busy to get together, or that I can't get together b/c I have to stay home and watch my kid, this is not always the case. I may need a little more notice when plans are made, but I still want to go out with them, even more so now as a Mom! As far as being too busy, I find that I spend most of my day bored and wishing I had someone to talk to or get together with. I try to tell them this but they don't seem to get it. Who knows maybe they don't want to spend time with me anymore?
I never thought my friends who I have been close with since I first met them when I was 11 would do this to me, but it happend. I know one day when they decide to have kids they will understand, lets just hope it's not too late and they have pushed me too far away.
---
friends past like ships in the night but family stay with you forever...these frineds dont sound like real friends at all to me. just look at sex and the city after miranda had her kid...nothing changed at all, her friends were there through the good times and the bad. they were there before the kid and they were even closer after. thats what real friends do. stick by you and find the time nomatter what!!!
x x x kel x x x
---
Wait until you get divorced then, It's worse still! No, I don't wish it upon you but unfortunately it happens to many of us eventually.
My then wife and I were often invited out to dinners, BBQ's etc but since we separated it seems like our mutual friends and neighbours feel like they can't invite us both, so don't invite us individually in case the one who wasn't invited might get offended.
Initially it probably wasn't a good idea to invite both of us as the hosts knew our 'relationship' was strained and they would feel uncomfortable but, now they know  they can invite us both and one of us may decline the invitation as we now communicate very well (we had to get to this stage because of the kids) and our hosts have been told this.
So, TALK to your friends as we talked to ours and they will understand.

Falling in Love: Men and Women

i wish that he would fall in love with me and that we could live happily ever after.
08/06/07 england
---
I see you are hurting but there isn't anything you can do to make someone love you. Be a good friend and maybe in time it will happen.
---
Well said.
---
Maybe your true prince hasn't arrived yet.
---
I don't think men fall in love slowly, it seems they make their minds up that they are interested fairly fast.  Women, on the other hand, grow in love when they lose their fear and feel satisfied that the man isn't a scary axe murderer or something.  So expecting a man to fall in love with you over time might be unrealistic.

What do you think? Leave a comment.

Do You Delete Bottles?

Do you delete bottles? If so which types and why? If not, why not?
---
When I first started playing this I got a bottle in a different language and just thought it was a bottle where someone was typing jibberish.   It was until a few bottles later I realised that it was a different language.  Now I never delete bottles because I feel like someone else in the world might like it.
---
Never gotten my own bottle or one I responded to back, must be one heck of a big ocean!
---
I've deleted a couple of bottles that were completely negative toward people or obscene before the censoring.  Otherwise, I just send on even if I disagree with the message.
---
I haven't deleted any yet. I have sent several on without adding a message because I just don't know what to say!
---
I DELETE NASTY ONES.
---
I've only deleted a few.  One becaues it was nothing but jibberish (not a foreign language) and a couple others because they were just hateful.  The hatefull ones are pretty rare though.
---
I'm pretty sure the first ammendment is freedome of speach... I say we keep it that way...even if "they are wrong and we know it all"
---
Toss out the bible quoters. Can find my own preacher.
---
I toss out the ones that spread hate about other people's religions.  The jews the muslims and the christians aren't perfect, but we don't need to discuss that here.
---
I rarely delete a bottle, sometimes just toss it back. First Amendment of not, I don't feel that destructive, vilifying speech needs to be forwarded. Why would I want to encourage someone else to hate?
---
The hateful ones should not be passed on, this is supposed to be FUN. Lets keep it that way!
---
i do not delete bottles.  i don't feel like it's my place to do so.
---
Ocassionally, depends on what's being said, but I don't do it to be spiteful
---
I just found this site, so I don't know. I can't see deleting bottles though, I mean even if the original message is gibberish or crap, you could always add something good to it. And I don't believe in censorship.
---
If I don't find it interesting, most of the time I delete it.
---
I don't delete bottles. This is a place where you can send your deepest thoughts and feelings out to the unknown.
If I don't agree, find offensive, or otherwise have nothing to add to a message I just toss it back. Somebody out there may enjoy reading it
---
I just start playing so I havent had the chance to delete anything...although I would probably delete negative ones.
---
I delete really obscene nasty ones, and ones where drongos think it's funny to write a message using wingdings. They just clog up the ocean.

Would You Swim in the Ocean?

Would you swim in the ocean?
---
No
---
Yes  I've been in the Atlantic, the Pacific, Carribean and the Sea of Cortez
---
Not in this sea, i don't want to get hit by a bottle :D
---
I have almost lost two sisters to the ocean, both times I was instrumental in saving their lives. My littlest sis I went out and got her by myself, my other one I had to have the help of my dad that didn't believe that she had been pulled by an undertow until it was almost too late. He got her finally, that will teach him to listen to me. That being said, if given a chance to swim in the ocean maybe but I would have to be a stronger swimmer and have some kind of floatation device. The ocean is a harsh mistress, be vigilant.
---
I love the ocean and swim in it whenever I can.
---
Better then the great lakes
---
aye
---
I'll leave it to the critters!
---
I went swimming once in the Gulf of Mexico and almost got nailed by a school of jellyfish.  One did manage to sting me on the ankle and it hurt for days. No oceans for me thank you.
---
yep, and do almost daily, whats the big deal?
---
yes so long as you're careful and respect the ocean.
---
I can't swim, but I have been wading at the beach.
I saw a starfish once; it was coming in on the tide. I threw it back. That was a long time ago, when I was a child. It's probably dead by now, but maybe it had lots of babies before that happened.
---
Yes, of course. I always do. You have to make sure to be careful, though.
---
I like to get my feet wet in the ocean, but I love just sitting in the sand watching the waves.   When I was a kid, I used to love riding the small waves, but that was a long, long, long, long time ago....:P

Talking to Strangers

Bottle from March 25

what is your opinion about oceangram?
which is more interesting-chatting or oceangram?
---
I like both  both can be very entertaining!  but the interaction of chatting is nice when you really want to talk to someone! then when you just want to be alone oceangram can bring a smile to your face!
---
they are both cool because with oceangram you dont know who the person is
---
Chatting is nice because it's instant results but oceangram is nice because it gives it more mystery and makes me more interested anyway
---
oceangram because it makes me smile, chatting can get boring
---
Oceangram is for the hopeless romantic like myself! Jesus is the answer for the world today! 1-6-07
---
You never know what you will get in your bottle, sometimes a joke, a story to add on to, a list of fabulous places traveled, words of wisdom and sometimes ignorant comments, but all in all I enjoy it
---
I find the anonymity of Oceangram interesting but I also find it frustrating that I can't see any responses to my posts :-S
---
Why can't you see responses to your post?  Try reading the instructions (How to use Oceangram).  You can see your message anytime you want to see it.  I hate chat rooms, because of the same stupid people that post here, but to the person who finds "chatting" to be boring, I'd have to say that is caused by the boring people who don't know how to keep a conversation running, have poor communication skills, etc.  And as far as not "knowing" who people are on Oceangram, but "knowing" who they are in a chat room - - - you've got to be kidding.  You don't "know" anyone in a chat room.  My name is Fred, I'm 18-years-old, and I love archery and golf, and I live in El Paso, Texas.  Now, do you know me?
-  Olivia - 6.09.07 - Lemon Grove, California, USA (Do you "know me" now?)
---
Lemon Grove was a great place when they still grew lemons there.  But that was decades ago.

Kevin Bacon and Anna Paquin

Bottle found March 24, 2012

Is anyone else as amazed by the Six Degrees theory as me?
---
What's that?
---
Totally. I know a guy that can take any two celebrities or famous peeps and connect then in under a min. Crazy.
---
hm? :S
---
We play the Kevin Bacon game ALL the time!! It is Awesome! You take one celebrity and link them back to Kevin Bacon. For Example-
Nicholas Cage- plays in a movie w/ John Travolia
John Travolta plays with Queen Latifa- who plays in Beauty Shop with Kevin Bacon!! Woohoo!
The point is to get to Kevin Bacon with any actor and in as less amount of degrees as possible! Good luck!
China 07/17/07
---
bacon...
---
OK I'll play along. I'll pick the actor/actress and you see if you can connect them to Kevin Bacon in six moves or less.
Kevin Bacon and Anna Paquin
Off you go!

Anna Paquin was in The Piano with Harvey Keitel
Harvey Keitel was in Pulp Fiction with Ving Rames
Ving Rames was in Mission Impossible with Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon

why is all the rum gone?

Mom's Rum Cake recipe

Ingredients
1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 (3.5 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
4 eggs
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil 1
/2 cup rum
1/2 cup chopped pecans
Glaze:
3 tablespoons butter (or margarine)
1/4 cup water
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup rum

Directions:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease and flour one 10 inch tube pan.
Combine cake mix and pudding mix.
In another bowl beat eggs, water, oil and rum until frothy. Add cake mix/pudding mixture and beat until well mixed. Spread pecans evenly over the bottom of the prepared pan and pour batter over pecans.
Bake cake at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) for 60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out dry when inserted in the center. Allow to cool in pan for 5 minutes and remove from pan. Place in serving dish immediately, right side up. (Pecans should be on the bottom)

To Make Glaze: During the last 15 to 20 minutes of baking time, combine butter or margarine, water and sugar in a sauce pan and bring to boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium and boil rapidly until it's very thick and syrupy stirring very frequently. The syrup must be reduced quite a bit and very thick otherwise it will make the cake mushy. Remove from heat and add rum.
While cake is still hot, poke holes all over top of cake with a toothpick and spoon glaze over top of cake.

Allow cake to sit at room temperature for one day then refrigerate.

---
Ooooo .... that's tasty!

That hs got to be the world's most unscientific and unintellectual position to take on God.  To deny the existence of a knowable God, simply because YOU don't know Him, is to suggest that there can be no reality beyond the range of your own personal discovery.  The vast majority of known reality has never entered your mind, such as the realm of God which is unknown to you.  If you're looking for scientific proof, the Second Law of Thermodynamics proves there is a God, since it contradicts the First Law of Thermodynamics, but you don't know anything about that, either, do you?  The being who created the material universe would be definition be separate from that universe; thus, it would defy the attempts of man to discover Him by natural scientific methods.  Yet, He he has left sufficient evidence of His genius in the intricately-designed cosmos, which any unprejudiced person can see. Consider the order of the universe, or the eye, or the human brain.  Design in nature proves the existence of a Designer/Creator.  Children can write what they wish.  They can write that they don't believe the sun will rise in the East and set in the West tomorrow, but they only prove another one of the designs in nature.  Oswald - Oregon - USA - April 15, 2010 -

Procrastination

Why do you always do totally pointless things when you got so mutch other stuff to do?

Procrastination! The King of all activities.

The thing is, you can never know what is "pointless" at the time.  Do you know why computers have a selection of fonts with proper spacing?  Because Steve Jobs dropped out of college and took a calligraphy class.

Somebody who is so self-important that they always have to do "important" things will never do anything worthwhile, because they are slaves to an artificial idea of what is high and worthy and what is trivial.

Best Place to Travel

Oceangram found 3/10/09

What is your favorite travel destination and why?
---
I loooooove Las Vegas. I used to go there 5-6 times a year, but less now. It's great just to relax, there's always something to do, or someplace to go there, as long as you don't get carried away with the gambling, which I hardly do anyway. ~ Craig, Honolulu, Hawaii 4/25/08
---
I only get as far as greggs

MNing all over the sea
---
My own back yard. I can relax. I don't have to pack or deal with TSA. I don't even have to shower if I don't feel like it. ;)

I love Vegas too but its been a while. Mexico was a one time trip. Canada is nice. But one day I'd love to go to Europe, preferably Italy.

Friends Oceangram

enjoy life :D oh and forgive your family always-whatever they do.

also
trust your friends and if you can't they are not good friends. find good friends-you can trust real friends. are you a real friend? i hope so...
---
A real friend will rejoice when something good happens to you, even when it will not benefit them at all.
A real friend will not envy you for your home, your possessions, your husband or your children.
---
ahhuh
---
ok
---
A real friend always has your back whether you're right or wrong. Family will leave you out in the cold.

Political Oceangram

An Obama Oceangram - November 7, 2008

OBAMA RULES!!! PRESIDENT OBAMA, BABY!!!
---
NOWAY...........................
---
Obama will lead to the death of the USA.
---
So true....Obama is so wrong for the
U.S.A.
---
Obama is actually a Lizard from the planet Zargon 9, David Icke told me so it must be true...
---
Nobody likes politicians ;)
---
Change is good and he will be apositive role model for many young black American men.
---
This is the second time I've gotten this bottle... how creepy!
---
America having a black president would be cool, but obama aint black, he is the new breed of wolf in sheeps clothing. a black man with white elitist attitudes and ambitions. black white red or green he is one of them and will never represent his creed.
---
Most of the rest of the world longs to see a Democrat in charge for a change. Obama would probably be great for America after the facist, right wing Dubya. And he would definitely be the best choice to make for a safer planet.

I have voted in the presidential election every year since I turned 18 (ironicly an election year). Last election proved to me that it doesn't matter what the *people* vote for, the governmet will put in whoever they darn well please. I'm not going to bother this year.
---
恩!说的很对!
---
McCain!
---
I honestly don't think the rednecks will vote for him.
---
No one in the US will have heard of David Icke!!!!!!
