Beloved Pets

My dog was diagnosed with cancer about a month ago. She's been feeling ok so far, but last night I could tell she's finally starting to feel some pain. I think she only has a few days left before I will have to kill her. I've had her for over 10 years and she's been my best little buddy. I'm going to miss her so much.
---

have her put to sleep and stay with her until the end. That's so often the price of love......
so sorry...
I think our animal companions are one of our best sources of comfort
---
We went through that a few years ago. My son had to have his cat who was almost 23 years old put to sleep. It was hard and we were in mourning for awhile. We still miss him, but it was something we had to do because he was suffering.
Good luck to you and sorry for your loss.
---
I am so sorry that you are going through this. Please don't look at it as "killing her" - you are removing her misery and making it possible for her to chase frisbees and stick her head out the car window in heaven. (Yes, dogs go to heaven. It wouldn't be heaven WITHOUT them!)

---
She never passes away. She is living in your heart permenantly.
---
Yes, it is a very hard thing. I have ahd 3 cats who I have had to put to sleep. They were all very sick in the end. It broke my heart every time, but it was the only thing too do. Here is a poem that hopefully helps!

A.D.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

When God had made the earth and sky,
the flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals
the fish, the birds and bees
And when at last He'd finished
not one was quite the same.
He said I'll walk this world of mine
and give each one a name.
And so He travelled far and wide
and everywhere He went,
a little creature followed Him
until its strength was spent.
When all were named upon the earth
and in the Sky and Sea,
the little creature said "Dear Lord,
there's no name left for me."
Kindly the Father said to him
"I've left you to the end.
I've turned my own name back to front
And called you DOG, my friend".

Losing a beloved pet is very hard. But you have loved and shared your life with them, the best thing to do at the end is to be with them and let them go. The love never stops, it just moves further into your heart. Thank you for not letting him suffer. Safe journey doggie, may you never suffer pain again.

Wow! I loved the God name turned backward to Dog! I had a beautiful golden lab named Russell. He used to smile and say "I Love You" - I loved that dog with my heart and soul! He chased a squirrel into the road one day and got hit by a car. He was alive when they brought him to the animal hospital. I couldnt bring myself to go down there to say goodbye to him - I just wanted them to put him out of his agonizing pain. It was horrible. That was 20 years ago and I am still welling up thinking about him. I know how bad you are feeling. May your beloved animal RIP.

loosing a pet is never easy. we had a dog with cancer we had to put down as well. just think of it as ending the pain and suffering not killing .
---
That´s all so sad.
My beautiful cats are 5 years and 6 months...I love them so much and can´t imagine life without them. I´m so sorry for you but I think stopping her pain is the best thing you can do.

---
You won't be killing her! Just sending her to a better place where you can meet her later on and carry on your journey together, X

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF A LOVING
PET OWNER
1. MY LIFE WILLL LAST ABOUT 10-15 YEARS. ANY SEPARATION FROM YOU WILL BE VERY PAINFUL FOR ME.
2. GIVE ME TIME TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU WANT OF ME.
3. DON'T BE ANGRY WITH ME FOR LONG, AND DON'T LOCK ME UP AS PUNISHMENT.
4. PLEASE PLACE YOUR TRUST IN ME, IT IS VERY CRUCIAL FOR MY WELL-BEING.
5. TALK TO ME, EVEN IF I DON'T
UNDERSTAND YOUR WORDS, I UNDERSTAND YOUR VOICE WHEN IT
IS SPEAKING TO ME.
6.BE AWARE, HOWEVER YOU TREAT ME, I WILL NEVER FORGET.
7. BEFORE YOU HIT OR STRICK AT ME, REMEMBER I HAVE TEETH THAT COULD EASILY BITE TO THE BONES IN YOUR HAND, BUT I CHOOSE NOT TO BITE YOU.
8. BEFORE YOU SCOLD ME FORBEING NASTY OR UNCOOPERATIVE, ASK YOURSELF IF SOMETHING MIGHT BE BOTHERING ME. PERHAPS I AM NOT GETTING THE RIGHT FOOD, I HAVE BEEN OUT IN THE SUN TOO LONG, I AM JUST TIRED, OR MY HEART MAY BE GETTING OLD AND WEAK.
9. TAKE CARE OF ME WHEN I GET OLD, YOU TOO, SOMEDAY WILL BE OLD.
10. GO WITH ME ON DIFFICULT JOURNEYS. NEVER SAY," I CAN'T BEAR TO WATCH", OR "LET IT HAPPEN IN MY ABSENCE". EVERYTHING WILL BE EASIER FOR ME IF YOU ARE THERE WITH ME.

I LOST A CAT THAT WAS FIFTEEN YEARS OLD. BANDIT HAD CANCER. I TOOK HIM TO A VET, HE TOLD ME HE WAS NOT IN ANY PAIN, TO LET BANDIT LIVE HIS LIFE OUT. THAT IS JUST WHAT I DID.
BANDIT: 6/17/81-9/6/97

I DID NOT WRITE THIS POEM, I FOUND IT WHEN I LOST BANDIT.

my cat Bandit was put to sleep a week and a half ago . i had her company for the past 16 years . i know she was quite ill and was wasting away before my eyes . i agonized for days on the decision i didn't want to make yet her cries made me realize it was her time to go . i've cried many tears in the past 11 days but realize it was for the best . i shall miss her the rest of my life but i am comforted by the love she gave me while she was here . she will always have a special place in my heart .

I put my beloved Penny to sleep almost two months ago and I'm still in mourning. In fact, it hurts just as bad today as it did 2 months ago. But, she was suffering and dying before my eyes, so it was in HER best interest that I have her put to sleep. You're doing the right thing! It's just hard!
